As we welcome 2026—the Year of the Fire Horse—I want to extend my warmest New Year greetings to everyone across Japan’s tourism industry.

The Horse is a symbol of dynamism and forward movement, and I cannot think of a more fitting spirit for the year ahead. 2025 was, by all accounts, a landmark year. The success of Expo 2025 Osaka and the incredible strength of inbound tourism have done more than just boost numbers; they have restored a deep sense of confidence across our entire travel ecosystem.

At ANTOR-Japan, while our mission is focused on outbound growth, we believe the balance between inbound and outbound flows is crucial. A strong inbound market strengthens the global connectivity that, in turn, supports a more robust and sustainable outbound sector for the long term.

According to the UN Tourism Barometer, international tourism has shown remarkable resilience, with arrivals surpassing 1.1 billion by September 2025 and exceeding pre-pandemic levels. Yet, beyond the statistics, we are witnessing a clear shift: travelers are changing. They are no longer just looking for destinations, but for authenticity and experiences that respect local culture and the environment

This year is especially meaningful as ANTOR-Japan celebrates its 60th anniversary. Since our founding in 1966, our goal has been to bridge Japan with the world through collaboration. Today, that mission feels more relevant than ever.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our members and partners for their unwavering support. I wish you all a 2026 filled with purposeful growth and shared success.

Sincerely yours,

Raül Guerra
